The European Commission published the “REPowerEU Roadmap” in order to end the EU's energy dependence on Russia and to ensure security of energy supply and energy price stability.
On 6 May 2025, the European Commission published the “REPowerEU Road Map” in order to ensure security of energy supply and energy price stability across the Union. In the press release, it was stated that the roadmap envisages a gradual exit from Russian energy resources and will support the energy transition.
The press release stated that the Commission will work with member states to implement the roadmap. By the end of 2025, each member state will be asked to prepare a national plan on how to end their energy imports from Russia. The Commission proposal will include actions to facilitate the monitoring of Russian natural gas in the European Union market, prevent new agreements with Russian suppliers and terminate existing short-term agreements this year to end Russian natural gas imports by the end of 2027.
